The Ending- Good or bad?

Personally, I think that the ending of the story is a good one; Even though the two innocent children died at the end, I felt that there were many things to be learnt about that. In the story, the Jews are depicted as enemies and "bad" while the Nazis are "good" so they  get to "punish" the Jews for their "misconduct". However, that is completely untrue. If the Nazi soldiers could mistake their own Commandant son to be a Jew, this shows that  regardless of  the Nazis beliefs, all Jews and Nazis are the same.

It was exceptionally touching in the last sentence of Chapter 19- "And then the room went very dark and somehow, despite the chaos that followed, Bruno found that he was still holding Shmuel's hand in his own hand and nothing in the world would have persuaded him to let it go."

This small, simple act of innocence really showed me how much Bruno valued his friendship with Shmuel, despite his own father's hatred towards the Jews. In conclusion, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a reminder that the tragedy was not just about Bruno and Shmuel's deaths, but also the deaths of the millions of Jews during Hitler's rule.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas- My Own Alternative Ending (Chapter 1)

It was the 2nd of May, the day when Berlin surrendered and also the day when Father was killed in the Battle of Berlin by the Soviet Forces.  When Mother heard the terrible news and broke down crying, Bruno was shocked to find that the only feelings he had was- nothing.

Bruno disliked his father. He was cold and cruel man, taking pleasure in other people's misery. Even though Berlin had lost the war, Bruno was glad that it had finally ended. During the year that they had stayed at Out-With, Bruno's friendship with Shmuel had taken him from innocence to revelation, about the horrors that the Jewish people had been subjected to by his own country.

In one way or another, Bruno was happy that the war had finally ended, once and for all. Too many people would die if Berlin had won.

"Bruno," Maria's soft and gentle voice interrupted his thoughts," your mother would like you and Gretel to move some boxes to the truck. We are leaving this place soon."

Bruno nodded and trotted  to the living room, cluttered with many boxes. He let out a huge sigh of relief. Finally, they were leaving this desolate place.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas- My Own Alternative Ending (Chapter 2)

Before they left for Berlin though, Bruno's family had one more job to do- to make sure the Jews and prisoners from The Holocaust get into the train safely.

"Bruno!" An excited, familiar voice drifted towards Bruno. He instantaneously recognised it as Shmuel's voice. Sprinting towards Shmuel, Bruno hugged him tightly. It was a heartwarming moment when Shmuel gave him a small smile in return.

The two friends had already discussed the plans for their own future- Shmuel will live with Bruno's family in Britain as Shmuel had lost his family when Hitler declared war against the Jews.

A few hours later, Bruno, Shmuel, Mother, Maria and Gretel were aboard a plane. They arrived in Britain and there, they were accepted as citizens who were strongly against Hitler.
